January 2026: Hair ice (Haareis)? - On this day I thought I might find some hair ice in the woods as conditions matched. And really: after less than half an hour I already found some hair ice - the classic aspect: on a piece of deadwood lying on the forest soil. Later, in a small clearing, I meant to see some plastic bags that seemed to be catched in some dead thistles. When I came closer I recognized that in fact it also was a kind of hair ice with very long cristals. This object is about 30cmx10cm and looks like rolled up around the thistle stem. I never saw something like this before. - Does anybody know how this kind of ice grows and why it grows that way? (Classic hair ice: see frontpage picture of January 2016: https://seasonsandbiomes.net/viewgallery.php?img=simb91100/911001512281.jpg)
