December 2016: Sheet of ice on a puddle: This seasonal picture tells you two things about our last days' weather: 1) It must have been cold enough for this ice sheet to form. 2) Either the ground is still warm or the weather has changed to above zero. The facts: We had four clear cold nights (below -5°C) that allowed the ice sheet to form and to grow up to more than 2cm. Although it was sunny during the day the ice didn't melt because of a cold wind from the east (Bise). This morning however it was overcast and +2°C, so the ice started to melt.
