October 2017: A group of "freshly hatched" fly amanitas [Amanita muscaria] (Fliegenpilz): They were part of an elf circle with a diameter of several meters with dozens of mushrooms. They pop up in the forest if conditions match and just push up wood, moos and whatever is on the ground, but still show the "baby look": A few days later they unfold the fruiting body and get plate-shaped and more orange than red (see gallery2 on September 30th). The distance between the white spots grows: while very young fly amanitas look almost white they look more red or orange when they grow. When they are very young they are protected by a white velum. They grow preferably close to spruce and birch trees where the soil is acid. It is widely spread and is found in North America, Europe (including Iceland) and Asia. The mushroom is poisonous: As little as about 10mg of muscimol can already be very effective. The result is similar to a heavy alcoholic intoxication. However it seems that this isn't a fatally poisonous mushroom like others.
