January 2018: (European) crested tit [Lophophanes cristatus] (Haubenmeise): Surprisingly we had a closed snow cover for several days in December. That's no problem at all for our birds at the beginning of winter. Nevertheless we like to feed them because it allows you to observe them from very close. Although last winter was very cold we never saw many birds. This time however we had lots of different tits, finches and others. Almost every day two crested tits visited the bird table, took one seed and disappeared in one of the next trees to open and eat it. This bird is quite rare in our region and therefore we are happy to have them here. It breeds in tree holes and lays normally 4-8 eggs. Roughly speaking it can be found in the triangle Portugal - Ural - Trondheim.
