November 2019: European larch [Larix decidua] (Europäische Lärche): It grows mainly in the Alpine regions and is the only conifer that sheds its needles. In Autumn the needles turn yellow which gives the trees and the larch forests a beautiful aspect, especially with blue sky. It was windy that day and when we were sitting close to some larch trees the wind blew lots of yellow needles to us and further on. In some places the ground was yellow. The wood is primarily used as lumber and for furniture. The larch cones you can see are the female blossoms and contain the seeds. In my March 2019 gallery2 you can see a picture of a male blossom. Larch trees are robust trees that grow up to the tree line.
