June 2020: Beautiful demoiselle [Calopteryx virgo] (Blauflügel-Prachtlibelle, Gemeine Seejungfer): It's really beautiful, mais ce n'est pas une demoiselle: this is a male dragonfly. It was caught in a spiderweb and I succeeded in liberating it. There are only two species of demoiselles in my region, and this is the one with a colorful male (the female has a brownish camo color). I never saw such an insect at home before! It needs running waters and therefore can't live in our pond. As they don't seem to fly very far I hope they live somewhere close to us. The males live only for about 40 days.
