September 2021: Fireweed [Epilobium angustifolium] (Schmalblättriges Weidenröschen): In Alaska this flower indicates the contdown to automn: the ascending flowers mark the shorter and shorter remaining summer time. There I saw whole hills covered with fireweed in bloom - an exceptional view! Here I only saw groups of fireweed but never blooming fireweed landscapes. The seed hairs were turned into wicks. The German botanist Sprengel discovered 1790 the cross-pollination with this plant.
