October 2021:Pale tussock [Calliteara pudibunda] (Buchenrotschwanz): My students showed me this funny caterpillar on a wild rose when we were outside to evaluate the water quality of the creek that flows across Uzwil. The adult is much less spectacular than the caterpillar. It is a moth of the family Erebidae and flies from April to June and can be a pest in beech forests. The larvae feed on oak, beech, willow, birch, Prunus and Crataegus species.
