May 2023: Apple trees [Malus pumila] (Apfel): The blooming period of these apple trees started at the beginning of May. In March the phenological stages were in advance (2-3 weeks!), but after a surprisingly cool April (actually that would be normal for April!) they were almost "normal" again. The weather forecast doesn't look like frost any more, so there is hope that there will be a rich harvest next autumn. We are glad that we get such a lot of precipitation at the moment that the lakes' water level and even the ground-water level gets normal again. We'll see whether enough insects are active in this rainy spring to pollinate all the apple blooms before they turn brown and fall!
