This graphic shows the Earth's postition on its orbit around the sun on March 1st. Our planet approaches the eqinox point when all over the world the sun will be over the horizon for 12hours - even at the poles: at the South Pole the sun will theoretically set at noon and won't rise again for half a year whereas at the North Pole it will rise at noon: this will be the beginning of the half year lasting polar day (and start the melting of the Arctic sea ice). The unique thing is that at the Equinox the Earth's axis is tangential to the Earth's orbit; therefore an observer on the sun would see the entire surface, from North Pole to South Pole, of our planet during 1 full rotation (24h). 1 day later already our observer couldn't see the South Pole any more as the Earth continues its journey on its orbit.
