The berries of the spindle tree [Euonymus europaeus] (Pfaffenhütchen) shine in a vibrant organe in the soft autumn light. The small tree (up to 6m) is poisonous, the leaves turn dark red in autumn. The white seeds are coated with an orange arillus and hang out of the seed capsule on a thin funiculus for some time. The wood is used to produce charcoal and for woodturning.
