When we tested our self-made rain gauges for the first time we had heavy rain that even turned to wet snow. To melt the snow and to compare our readings we took the whole box inside in the morning and took our first readings in the afternoon. They differed by a factor of 10 which meant that some teams had to improve their reading / calculating procedure for the second test.
