A honey bee [Apis mellifera] visits an apple blossom. Two things are remarkable: 1) Most of the apple blossoms have brown egdes and look tousled. 2) The bee carries a lot of pollen. Depending on the variety of apple and the exposure some apple trees started to bloom in late April already. Surprisingly we got some snow and freezing night temperatures at that time. Therefore many petals show brown frost damage and the blossom's aspect is a bit tousled. I'm not sure whether the brown stamina still contain active pollen as the blossoms that opened later show little frost damage and yellow stamina (bottom left). The bee that sucks nectar however has harvested a lot of pollen already and will carry it in its pollen basket back to the hive.
