We survived another unseasonably wet month this summer! Our summer weather continued to be cool and damp throughout most of July. I recorded 139.1 mm of rainfall during the month. I don't have the summaries for the month from the Alaska Climate Data Center, but they have posted June's data at
http://akclimate.org/
I don't think we exceeded the rainfall record for July in Fairbanks, but I'll guess that we came close.
It was 14.4 C when I took the photos and there was 4.2 mm of rainfall in my garden rain gauge.
My garden has been slow to produce, although it is very lush and green. However, I have picked many more strawberries than usual (and made 20 jars of strawberry-basil jam!) and I know that the wild blueberries were late to ripen. My domestic raspberries are still ripening on the bush, which is 10-14 days late. We are all hoping for warm sunny weather in August!
Our days are shorter, of course, and we have darkness for several hours at night. The sun rose today at 4:57 am and will set at 11 pm, giving us 18 hours and 2 minutes of daylight.
