As you can see, our leaves have completely fallen and winter is on its way. Today, the sky is overcast and the temperature is 8.3 C. We have had freezing temperatures every night for about a week (except last night it did not freeze, probably because of the cloud cover). We haven't seen much precipitation in the last 2 weeks, although Friday evening there was a brief period of sleet/rain/snow. September was quite warm and pleasant, with temperatures frequently higher than the average. Our first official frost did not occur until 26 September, quite late in the year for this area. Of course, we passed the Autumnal Equinox and now we have longer nights than days. The sun rose today at 8:03 am and will set at 7:21 pm, Alaska Daylight Time, for a total of 11 hrs 18 minutes of daylight. We are losing a little more than 6 minutes of daylight each day.
