A cold weather front
moved through over the last few days so the hot temperatures of a week ago
(26 C and slightly higher) are gone. But we did get some rain, something us
gardeners are always glad to see! I have been picking greens (spinach,
lettuce, chard, beets, kale) for several weeks, greenhouse cucumbers for a
week or more and just 2 days ago picked my first very little carrots. The
annual flowers are starting to bloom, too, as is our native fireweed. I do
love this time of year!
The photos I attached were taken during the middle of the day, yesterday, 3
July, at about 12:30 pm, and there was a very light rain falling. The
temperature was 13.5 C and there was 2.2 mm of rainfall in the rain gauge
mounted near my garden. We have passed solstice (I hope you had a happy
birthday!) so our day length has started to decrease slightly. On 3 July
the sun rose at 3:17 am and set early this morning at 12:36 am giving us 21
hours and 19 minutes of daylight. This is still more daylight than last
month at this time (3 June had 20 hours 53 minutes of daylight) but since
solstice we have lost about 33 minutes of day length. Winter is coming!
