The temperature was 11 C when I took this photo. We had some rain - lovely rain! - the day before and there was 3.3 mm of water in my rain gauge in my garden, not far from my SIMB plot. I noticed the first wild roses (Rosa acicularis) blooming nearby and the Highbush Cranberry (Viburnum edule) and the Bluebells (Mertensia paniculata) have been blooming for about 5 days.
A cold front moved through on Saturday, 30 June and with it some thunderstorm activity and violent winds. But the rain that fell was gentle and I was glad to see it. I have been planting and the cool rainy weather helped my seedlings adjust to their new setting. Also, it has been so very dry that it eases some of the danger from forest fires. However, I think the threat is still there since we really did not receive that much rain.
The long days are such a treat! Yesterday, when I took my photo, the sun rose at 3:28 am and actually did not set until early this morning at 12:12 am! That is a total of 20 hours and 44 minutes - isn't June the most wonderful month?! It is remarkable how fast my seedlings in the garden will grow over the next month due to the long daylight hours.
