At the time I took the photos, 12:55 pm, the temperature was 4.4 C and earlier in the day there was 2.6 mm of rain in the rain gauge.
It is so hard to believe that summer is ending already! We have had several days of light frost and so the leaves are turning color and starting to fall from the trees. Two days ago we had torrential rain: in 24 hours I recorded 48.2 mm of rainfall, which is a lot for this area. It has truly been a summer of rain! The Fairbanks News Miner reported that this was the wettest summer in Fairbanks on record (since 1906 when records started) - and that was before our most recent rain two days ago!
Of course, we are also losing daylight at the rate of about 7 minutes a day as we approach the autumnal equinox in a few weeks. The sun rose today at 6:37 am and will set at 9:07 pm for a total day length of 14 hours 30 minutes.
